Care & Maintenance

King ColorCore® is a versatile multi-color engravable high-density polyethylene sheet with multiple layers of contrasting colors.

King ColorCore® is made with high-impact-resistant polymer to handle more abuse than conventional sign materials. Its thin cap layers and bright primary colors make it ideal for signage, marine, playground and recreational applications.

The King ColorCore® is also chemically resistant. Most chemicals, except the harshest solvents and acids, will have little effect on the material.

The following are a few tips on care and maintenance to keep King ColorCore® looking new.

• Keep teak oil and other wood preservatives and stains away from King ColorCore®. They may permanently stain the polymer sheet.

• Rust stains are very difficult to remove from King ColorCore®, especially light colors. Keep uncoated metals away from your new King ColorCore®.

• Do not mark the material with pencils, pens or magic markers. If you are constructing or attaching something to King ColorCore®, use china markers or wax pencils.

• King ColorCore® will melt if exposed to extreme heat. Do not subject the polymer sheet material to a consistent temperature of over 180º Fahrenheit. Heat sources can mar the finish.

• You will not be able to paint King ColorCore®.

Cleaning

• To clean everyday dirt and stains, use a cleaner such as Soft Scrub® and a nylon scrubby or stiff nylon brush. Scrub lightly; excess force can mar the finish.

• Persistent stains will usually go away if you soak the area with bleach. Do not use 100% chlorine as used to treat swimming pools and/or use a pressure washer.

• Stains and marks have been successfully removed with the following branded products: Goof Off®, Mr. Clean Magic Eraser®, and GOJO® Orange Pumice Hand Cleaner.

• To clean a petroleum stain such as grease or oil, use a citrus cleaner, alcohol or mineral spirits.

• In severe cases, spray petroleum-based stains with WD40®. Then use toluene or acetone and a white nylon scrub pad (colored pads release staining dyes when combined with acetone).

• Do not use MEK, turpentine or naphtha solvent. When you start to see scoring on your sheet of King ColorCore®, you may lightly use a steel scouring pad to remove any loose plastic particles from the sheet’s surface, and then use a belt sander to smooth out the surface. Be careful to work on the problematic areas only because sanding will remove the matte finish.
